Sukkot Retreats in the Northeast: What I’d Actually Compare Before Booking
Looking at Sukkot programs in Vermont, the Catskills, Berkshires or New England? Compare the sukkah, minyan, meals, weather backup, group fit and total cost before the property photos.

I would start with the sukkah, not the bedroom
A beautiful house is nice. For Sukkot, I care first about how the sukkah actually works. Can the group eat there comfortably? Is it central to the weekend or tucked away behind the property? What happens if the weather turns? Are meals scheduled around it in a way that makes sense?
This is the detail that changes the whole trip. A retreat can have amazing amenities and still feel disconnected from Sukkot if the sukkah is treated like a checkbox.
The Northeast is great for Sukkot, but weather is part of the deal
Late September is exactly why Vermont, the Berkshires and the Catskills are appealing: the air is cooler, the leaves are changing and being outside feels like the point. It is also why you need a real rain plan and layers.
For 2026, Sukkot began Friday night, September 25, and the first two days outside Israel ran through Sunday night. That Friday-night start meant arrival, food and the whole property had to be ready before Yom Tov.
Group fit matters more than people admit
If you are coming alone, ask whether other solo guests are normal. If you are coming as a couple, ask whether the weekend is actually broad enough that you will not feel like you walked into a singles mixer. If there are families, ask how much of the program is aimed at them.
Our favorite format is a house because you keep seeing the same people. Breakfast, the sukkah, the living room, a walk, another meal. You do not have to force connection when the layout keeps putting people back together.
Compare the real price, not the headline number
Write down what the number includes: how many nights, meals, room type, deposit, Four Kinds if relevant, programming and anything mandatory. A camping price and a private-suite price are not really comparable, and neither is a room-only hotel number versus a full food package.
The older Hamsa Nomads 2026 comparison page still has the detailed Northeast framework. I would use that for the research layer and the current Sukkot page for the actual Hamsa experience and future interest list.
