Jewish Ski Weekend Near NYC: How We’d Build Skiing Around Shabbos
How to plan a Jewish ski weekend near NYC without turning Shabbos into a logistics problem: Friday timing, lodging, kosher food, skiing and a Southern Vermont house weekend.

Ski Friday or Sunday. Let Shabbos be Shabbos
The cleanest ski weekend is not one where you are trying to squeeze the mountain into every available hour. We would rather ski Friday before getting settled, ski Sunday after the weekend, or make one of those days the main ski day.
That leaves Shabbos free to feel like the reason everyone is actually together: meals, davening, games, a walk if conditions make sense, and a house full of people with nowhere else they need to be.
The house should be close enough that the mountain does not control Friday
Mount Snow says it is about four hours from New York City. That is reasonable for a weekend, but not if everyone decides to leave work late on Friday.
For a ski Shabbos, we would strongly prefer Thursday night arrival or a very early Friday departure. The whole point is to avoid turning candle lighting into a race against traffic and weather.
Food needs to be solved before the skis go in the car
A ski house full of hungry people goes through food quickly. Friday dinner and Shabbos lunch are obvious, but the forgotten meals are usually Thursday night, Friday on the mountain, Motzei Shabbos and Sunday breakfast.
We would map every meal before shopping and keep ski-day food separate from the Shabbos setup. That way nobody is opening the wrong cooler looking for a protein bar.
Gear creates its own house problem
Skis, boots, helmets, coats, gloves and wet layers take up an absurd amount of room. Before booking, we look for an entrance or mudroom where gear can actually live without taking over the dining area.
Inside the bedrooms, we keep personal luggage smaller than usual. Winter equipment is already doing enough damage to the floor plan.
This is exactly why we are exploring a Hamsa ski weekend
Hamsa Nomads has an early-2027 Jewish ski weekend near NYC on the interest list. The current concept is skiing, kosher meals, Shabbos and a group house in the mountains.
This article is the planning logic behind that concept. The event page is where we will keep the actual dates, location and registration information as they are confirmed.
