Chanukah Shabbos Weekend 2026 in the Northeast: Why This Calendar Actually Works

Looking for a Chanukah Shabbaton or Hanukkah weekend in the Northeast? December 4–6, 2026 lines up unusually well with Shabbos, candle lighting, board games and a full weekend away.

The 2026 calendar does half the planning for you

Chanukah starts Friday night, December 4, 2026. That means the first candles are lit before Shabbos candles, the second night starts after Shabbos ends, and Sunday is already the third night. For a Friday-to-Sunday weekend, the holiday is not something you have to squeeze into the schedule. It is the schedule.

That is why this year feels especially good for a house weekend. Friday has the arrival and first lighting. Shabbos can stay slow: davening, long meals, games, naps, learning, whatever the group naturally settles into. Motzei Shabbos has its own energy without needing to manufacture a separate Saturday-night event.

I would choose the house before I choose the activities

For a small group, the property matters more than a huge program list. You want one table that can actually seat everyone, enough living-room space for people to stay around after a meal, a game table that is not blocking the kitchen, and sleeping arrangements that are clear before people arrive.

A good weekend should still work if one activity disappears. If the room itself makes it easy to talk, eat, daven and play, you do not need to fill every hour.

Board games fit this weekend unusually well

Games solve a very specific social problem: someone can join a table without needing a formal introduction. That matters when people are arriving solo or only know one person. The best games for a weekend like this are the ones you can explain quickly, pause between meals and pick back up later.

We would rather have six games people actually play than thirty boxes nobody opens. A mix of easy group games, one or two longer strategy games and a few two-player options gives the house enough variety without turning it into a convention.

What I would check before paying for a Chanukah weekend

Ask for the exact arrival window, lodging setup, what kosher meals are included, how candle lighting is handled, whether there is a minyan, and what the Shabbos setup looks like in the actual property. If the event is aimed at young professionals, also check whether solo guests are normal and how large the group is expected to be.

Hamsa Nomads is using this exact Friday-to-Sunday format for December 4–6, 2026. The current event page has the live registration details; this article is the planning side of it.
