You can come with curiosity

You might love choosing colors but have no idea what to do with a paintbrush. Or you might already make things at home and want a weekend with other Jewish young adults who enjoy experimenting. A creative Shabbos retreat gives you a chance to try a project, share a table and get to know people over the course of a whole weekend.

At Hamsa Nomads, we’re bringing that idea to Studio Shabbos in Ocean City, New Jersey, November 6–8, 2026. We’re planning hands-on workshops around Shabbos, with kosher meals, a minyan and a Sefer Torah. You don’t need an art portfolio to join.

Art workshops before and after Shabbos

The timing matters. At Studio Shabbos, we plan perfume making and Havdalah-set creation before Shabbos begins. On Motzaei Shabbos, we’ll use our handmade sets for Havdalah, then move into painting and stained-glass-inspired UV resin projects.

For the resin work, think about color, transparency and how the pieces look together. Perfume making gives you a different starting point: compare scents and explore combinations. These are opportunities to experiment with materials and your own taste. We’re still developing the program, so check the event page for current workshop details.

Creativity during Shabbos

During Shabbos, we’ll put the paint and resin away. We’ll have creative games, paracha-inspired activities and conversation alongside davening and meals. You can spend time with an idea, listen to someone else’s interpretation or join a group game.

If you’re searching for an “art Shabbat” or “creative Shabbos,” check how the organizer separates hands-on making from Shabbos activities. Our workshops take place before or after Shabbos. That schedule lets us enjoy the creative theme while keeping Shabbos.

Choosing a Jewish art retreat

Look at the whole weekend before choosing. Check the age group, the sleeping arrangements and the religious setup. Ask which workshops are planned and how much experience you need. If you’re coming with a friend, distinguish sharing a room from sharing a bed.

For Studio Shabbos, we’ve listed the room options on the booking page. The house is in Ocean City, NJ, five minutes from the beach. We share the exact address and arrival instructions with confirmed guests. Use the current event page for prices and availability rather than relying on an older post.

Make something with people you’ve just met

A shared project gives you something to talk about while you settle in. You can ask someone about a color choice or compare what you’re making. Then you have the rest of the weekend to continue the conversation over meals and games.

If that sounds like your kind of Shabbos, explore the Studio Shabbos program and send your booking request. Our team reviews room availability and follows up with the next steps.
